Will you be applying for a passport? Or your old passport is for renewal? President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act No. 10928, on August 2, 2017, an act that extends the Philippine Passports validity to 10 years from the present 5 years validity.

Under R.A. No. 10928, passport of minors will still have the same 5- year validity period.

The new passport law also permits the passport issuing authority to limit the passport validity to less than 10 years when necessary in the interest of the country’s economic and political interests.

What is the Impact of the New Passport Validity

The extension of the passport validity is beneficial to our travelers who with a passport valid for 10 years, can travel more to other countries. This also lessens the burden of renewing passports every five years. Furthermore, this reduce the workload of Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) which is tasked to issue the Philippine passports.

The passport extension law will take effect after publication in National Gazette or in a national newspaper of general circulation.

Tasked to come up with the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) on the implementation of the new passport validity is the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

So, for our readers who don’t have passports yet, you may apply for your passport as soon as the new law will be publicized. With 10 years validity, you have more opportunities to travel abroad.

Meanwhile, in preparation for your passport application, be ready with acceptable IDS and other supporting documents as follows.
