How to Apply for a Philippine Passport: DFA LIST OF REQUIREMENTS

Passports are a privilage that every Filipino can enjoy and use. Passports are used for foreign travels be it for vacationing and for work abroad.

In short, you need a valid Philippine Passport if you want to go outside the Philippines.

Getting a new passport is now easy. All you have to do is visit a DFA Office and bring the required ID and documents. If you are asking “how to apply for a new Philippine Passport”, then better read the list of requirements first set by the DFA or the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Philippine Passport General Requirements:

Personal appearance – Even if you apply via a travel agency you are still required to be present in the DFA office for the biometrics, picture taking and signing.

Confirmed appointment  – For those planning to apply in Metro Manila or in the provinces, you must secure an appointment via the DFA Appointment Website or call the DFA Appointment Hotline at (02) 737-1000. Visit the DFA website to request for appointment,  http://www.passport.com.ph/choose-branch   then just follow the instructions on that site.

Birth Certificate (BC)  in Security Paper (SECPA) issued by the National Statistics Office (NSO) or Certified True Copy (CTC) of BC issued by the Local Civil Registrar (LCR) and duly authenticated by NSO.  You can apply directly at your local NSO  to secure authenticated birth certificate or via online thru NSO Helpline website https://nsohelpline.com/.  Or call their hotline at (02) 737-1111.

Note: Birth certificate secured via NSO helpline is more expensive versus securing BC from your local NSO office, but it is way faster.

Valid picture IDs and supporting documents to prove identity. Check this for List of Acceptable IDs and List of Supporting Documents. Don’t forget to photocopy ALL your original IDs (front and back) and supporting documents.

New Application Passport Fee:

  • Regular Processing (20 working days) – P950
  • Express or Rush Processing (10 working days) – P1,200
